Update on our Tree Sale -
We cannot say "Thank You" enough times to our wonderful Tree Guys and all the volunteers that worked shifts at our tree lot in November and December.  It looks like we sold over $73,000 worth of trees and netted over $42,000 to be used to fund our PTA programs!  This is the most money the tree sale has ever made!  Special thanks to Jamie Burgess for being willing to take on the hard job of coordinating the entire production and to Jamie Simone for running our tree sale for many years and expertly training our new coordinator.  You guys rock!

After School Hoops -

Starts this Wednesday for the K-2 group and Friday for the 3 -5 group.  The K-2 class is full, however, there are a few spots left in the 3 - 5 class.  The cost of the program is $60 and checks should be made payable to the Green Lake PTA. This activity starts at 3:10 pm and goes until 4:10 pm.  Please contact Christinapetrie@hotmail.com if you have questions.

Spring Baseball sign-ups are happening now:

Registration for North Central Little League is now open. NCLL is a Double Goal league, which means competing/winning is important, but we also focus on creating a positive, character-building experience. Our focus on using baseball as not just a sport, but as a venue to learn about life and make friends has proven successful and we are excited for the upcoming season. We are also offering an “all girls” track at a younger age level. For more information and/or to register, please go to the NCLL website. http://www.northcentrallittleleague.org/home

Ice Skating at the Bellevue Magic Season Ice Arena
The Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA), a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization and Bank of America are proud to present the Bellevue Magic Season Ice Arena and an opportunity for us to earn money!  The ice rink is built every year as a temporary structure at the Bellevue Downtown Park in Downtown Bellevue, just south of Bellevue Square mall.

Admission to the rink is $10/person (includes skate rental).  The BDA is offering $3 for every paying visitor from your school who notify our rink staff upon paying what school they are affiliated with.  They will tally the total number of visits from the dates listed below and provide a check to our PTA/PTSA at the end of the season.

Ice skating opens to the public on Friday, November 25th and closes on Sunday, January 8th and is a part of the Bellevue Magic Season. Families can make it a night of holiday fun with a visit to Snowflake Lane at the Bellevue Collection and stroll through Garden d’Lights at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. More information about the Bellevue Magic Season can be found at www.magicseason.com.

Legislation and State Budget update:
As most of you know, the state is in a budget crisis and a special session has been called for our state legislators to decide how to trim the state budget for the next year.  Cuts to education are being considered, including shortening the school year.  Below is the link to the WA state PTSA Take Action page. They have a nicely worded form letter that can be sent to your state legislators. It is easy to make changes or people can just send it as it is.  Please take a moment to let our legislators know that we do not want any more cuts to education.

Walk-N-Rollathon -
Congratulations to Mrs. Harrington's class for winning the Big Shoe!   The children in her classroom collected the most money of all the classrooms this year!  Congratulations also to Bo Wikan and Gladys Alberts for completing the most laps and to kindergartner Lyla Sutphin for raising the most money in the school.  These students along with the top 2 in each grade for laps completed were honored and awarded prizes at an all-school assembly on Wednesday.

We are very thankful for all of the participation and support that made this event such a success - what a great way to start off the year!

Sister Schools Supply Drive and Fundraiser-

Our students have the opportunity again this year to support Sister Schools, a local organization that directly helps school children in Uganda. Terry McGill from Sister Schools presented to all the K-5 students in the library today, kicking off the events.

The Supply Drive runs from this Monday, Nov. 7th, through Friday, Nov. 18th at Green Lake Elementary. Items can be brought to your child's homeroom teacher anytime in this window. The items will be picked up on Friday Nov. 18th.

In the spring, Terry will return and show more slides of the items GLES kids have sent to along to Uganda arriving in the arms of their new owners. He will also show slides of children who received scholarships paid for by families at GLES, so our kids can see how they have helped make a difference around the world from where we live.

Supply items that are needed include NEW or GENTLY USED...

Primary Needs -
School Supplies: Pencils, pens, paper, pencil sharpeners, erasers, chalk, spiral notebooks, three ring binders

Books: Dictionaries, atlases, children's books of all types

Sports Equipment: soccer balls, softballs, baseballs, basketballs, volleyballs, any types of balls

Secondary Needs -

Arts and Crafts: Crayons, colored paper, glue, scissors, rulers, coloring books, paint sets

Health and First Aid: Toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, band-aids, sewing supplies

Other Needs-

Clothing: Shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, hats, raincoats, socks, shoes, and light sweaters and jackets

Toys: Board games, puzzles, toy figures, cars, etc.

In addition to the Supply Drive, we will also be having a "Dollar Days" fundraiser to help raise funds to support scholarships for Ugandian children who want to go to school beyond 7th grade. Students interested in participating should bring in cash, coin or checks payable to "Sister Schools" on the last three days of the supply drive, on November 16, 17, and 18th. Funds will be collected at lunchtime on those days.

Thank you so much for considering supporting our supply drive and/or fundraiser for Ugandian children!!!
