Physical Education (PE)

At Green Lake, our physical education program stresses cooperation, teamwork, positive attitude, and allows all students to succeed.
  • Get kids in shape -- make fitness fun!
  • Inspire families to exercise together
  • Teach swimming and lifesaving water skills to every child

Green Lake School provides 150 minutes of PE for Kindergartners each week. For First through Fifth grades, Students alternate between 60 minutes one week and 90 minutes the next week.

Our teachers design units to incorporate all learners and build curriculum to include basketball and soccer, as well as dance and gymnastics.
"Each of us have our strengths and weaknesses; we come to PE to improve our skills, experience teamwork, and learn new ways to stay active and healthy."         Kate Sipe, Intermediate Team Teacher

Swimming

Swimming instruction is provided for all students at Green Lake Elementary.  We use Evans Pool for our lessons.  A lifelong skill for safety and enjoyment, this activity is taught by our Health and Fitness instructor, Jaime Matthews.  This activity is PTA- and SPS-funded. Read more

Physical Education

GLES has a full-sized gymnasium with an indoor climbing wall, as well as an outdoor playground. In a departure from traditional PE classes, which emphasized competitive team sports and often penalized less athletic students, Green Lake’s innovative PE teacher, Jame Matthews emphasizes games that promote fun and cooperation as well as encouraging agility and vigorous activity.
