WALK AND ROLL-A-THON

Friday, October 4th 2019

Get those sneakers ready! Our annual Walk-and-Roll-a-thon is taking place on Friday, October 4th! The Walk-and-Roll-a-thon is a major student driven fundraiser and one of the most fun all-school events of the year. Students will walk or roll a 1/4 mile course on the playground, collecting pledges from friends, neighbors, grandparents, etc. for the number of laps completed. This year we hope to raise $25,000 for our school and PTA sponsored activities!!

The class that raises the most money wins the coveted BIG SHOE! Individual prizes will be awarded for most laps completed by grade, and grand prizes for the most laps completed in the school.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How does the Walk-and-Roll-a-thon raise money?
Each student is asked to solicit pledges from family members, neighbors and friends. Pledges are usually made by per lap completed, so the more laps completed the better!! Pledges can also be made in one lump sum. Each child will receive a pledge form from their teacher two weeks prior to the event.

  • What is the average number of laps completed?
On average, students complete around 15 to 20 laps.  But all kids have differing abilities The all-time school record is 36 laps!

  • Can students jog the course?
Yes, but safely please!

  • Can students ride their bikes?
No.  The Roll-a-thon includes our wonderful friends who use wheelchairs.

  • What if a student cannot find a sponsor, can they still participate?
Of course!! We want every student to be excited and proud to participate in this event.  To that end, we are fortunate to have a Secret Sponsor who will donate $1 for each child who doesn’t have a sponsor.

  • What should students wear?
Students will be provided with a t-shirt the day of the event and the number of laps will be recorded on that. They should also wear running shoes, rain gear if needed, layer with a sweatshirt/sweater …so when the kids get hot they can peel off their layers!

  • Will refreshments be provided?
YES!  We have a number of snacks donated during the event and each class coordinates a snack for after they are done.  And, PLEASE remember to send your child with a water bottle!  Water coolers will be available for refills.

  • Can parents/family watch?
Although having spectators is wonderful, what we really need are volunteers at the event.  So if you plan on coming to cheer for the kids, please consider volunteering…we need your help!!!

More information will be provided from our volunteer coordinator, Alisa McMullen volunteers@greenlakedragons.org
