Active Transportation Program

The Active Transportation Committee works every year to make commuting to and from school fun, safe, and well...active! We support biking, rolling, walking, and other human‑powered commuting throughout the year, with a special focus on Bike Everywhere (and to School) Month each May. Our goal is to build healthy habits, reduce traffic congestion, and help students feel confident navigating their neighborhood.

Who It Serves

All Green Lake Elementary students and families who wish to participate. Participation is always optional and flexible; families choose what works best for them.

How It Works

Our biggest annual celebration is Bike Everywhere Month, which includes Bike to School Day, the GLES Donut Ride, Bike Bingo, and more.

Throughout the year, families are also invited to form Bike Trains, or small groups of students and adults who ride to school together along a shared route.

Bike Trains

We invite you to form and manage a ‘Bike Train’ to bike students to and from Green Lake Elementary, especially during the months of April, May, and June. Each group would coordinate their own route and timing for the Bike Train to function.

If you form a Bike Train or have questions, please email garettcycles@gmail.com. You can also read the Bike to School Train Planning Guide for tips on getting started.
