Olallie Learning Garden

The Olallie Learning Garden is a welcoming outdoor space where Green Lake students learn, play, explore nature, and connect with the environment. The garden is cared for by a small group of coordinators along with families and community members who pitch in whenever they can, no experience required.

Who It Serves

All Green Lake Elementary students, families, and staff.

The garden is intentionally designed to be accessible to everyone, with features such as sensory beds and wheelchair‑accessible raised beds so all students can participate in garden activities.

How It Works

The Garden Coordinators organize seasonal work parties and help guide ongoing care. Students enjoy the garden during the school day, and the school community uses the space during after‑school events and activities. Families and volunteers help keep the space thriving through planting, weeding, watering, and other maintenance tasks.

Work parties are scheduled in advance and shared through the school calendar, weekly newsletters, and PTA communications. Volunteers can also help informally whenever opportunities arise.

How Students Participate

Students participate in garden activities during the school day and throughout the year. Depending on the season, they may help with planting, harvesting, or caring for garden beds. Classes also contribute through art projects and other creative work that becomes part of the garden.

Volunteer Opportunities

Families and community members are invited to help with garden upkeep throughout the year. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Tools are provided, though volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves or any favorite tools they prefer to use.

  • Garden Crew Member - Join scheduled work parties or help with ongoing maintenance.
  • Summer Watering Team - Help keep the garden healthy during the dry months.
