Social Justice and Equity

The Green Lake Elementary PTA is committed to supporting every student and family in our community; not just through events and enrichment, but through programs that strengthen equity, reduce barriers, and ensure all families feel supported, and included.

Weekly Grocery Program

The Weekly Grocery Program provides food support to GLES families experiencing financial hardship. Each week, volunteers deliver assistance through the form of grocery store gift cards to participants. Families can request support at any time, and the PTA works closely with school staff to ensure the program is accessible, responsive, and respectful of each family’s needs.

Rising Star Partnership

Green Lake Elementary partners with Rising Star Elementary, a school in our district that does not have access to the same level of PTA resources. As part of our equity commitment, the GLES PTA shares a small percentage of our annual revenue with the Rising Star PTA to help fund programs, supplies, and opportunities for their students.

This partnership is rooted in the belief that all children in Seattle deserve access to enriching school experiences, not just those in well‑resourced neighborhoods. By sharing a portion of what we raise, we help strengthen another school community and build relationships across the district.

How to Get Involved

The Social Justice & Equity Committee welcomes volunteers who want to support food access, help coordinate resource‑sharing, or bring new equity‑focused ideas to the PTA.
