Swimming
The Swim Program is a long standing partnership between Green Lake Elementary, Evans Pool, and the PTA. For roughly 6 weeks in the late winter/early spring, all 2nd grade students are offered free swim lessons during the school day. The program builds water safety skills, confidence, and comfort in the pool while giving students a joyful shared experience.

Who It Serves
All 2nd grade students at GLES who wish to participate.
How It Works
Each 2nd grade class visits Evans Pool once per week during the school day. Students are accompanied by school staff and PTA volunteers who help with transitions, locker rooms, and deck support. All instruction is provided by certified lifeguards and swim instructors.
Lessons typically begin shortly after winter break and run through late winter or early spring. Specific dates and schedules are sent home each year by classroom teachers.
How Students Participate
Teachers will send home schedules and any required forms or reminders before lessons begin.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Swim Program relies on parent and caregiver volunteers each week to ensure smooth transitions and student safety. Typical roles include:
- Locker Room Helper - Assist students with entering/exiting the locker rooms, help maintain safety and order, and support students who need extra time or assistance.
- Deck Helper - Help students line up, transition to instructors, and move safely around the pool deck.
- Class Escort / Transition Support - Walk with the class to and from Evans Pool and help manage transitions.
- Safety Trained Support - Some roles require Red Cross training; the PTA covers the cost for volunteers who need certification.
